Design and Evaluation of ESP Coursebooks

Result type
book chapter
Description

This study provides a conceptual framework for ESP coursebooks design and evaluation. The first chapter presents basic characteristics of high-quality coursebooks, discusses roles and authenticity of learning materials and deals with the factors that are necessary to take into consideration during their design including the roles of teachers who design and use learning materials. The crucial part of the chapter is a specification of the design principles of an ESP coursebook that are based on the theories of second language acquisition. The second chapter discusses a process of ESP learning materials evaluation and gives examples of different checklists whose design is one of the intermediate objectives of my ESP coursebook design-based research.
