Our Alumni: Stories and Successes
We have many successful graduates. Let´s take a look at what they do and how they remember their college years at our department.
BEng et Bc. Monika Pekařová (class of 2017) says: “Studying English in Electrical Engineering and Informatics provided me with an advanced level of technical English, which helped me greatly in my subsequent studies in Denmark. In addition, I must highlight the level of English teaching as such, because the principles of academic writing or Business English came in very handy not only in my further studies but also in my search for work abroad. My current position is Equipment Engineer (The Lego Group).”
Ing. Kryštof Froehling (class of 2017) works as a Translation Coordinator at RWS: “After my graduation I joined a translation company in Brno as Localization Lead, where I coordinate translations for multinational companies. In this role, I use the language and IT skills I acquired during my undergraduate studies, including the communication skills I learned in the programme.”
Ing. David Konečný (class of 2017): “Since I really liked English and mathematics in high school, the study programme immediately caught my attention and I have to say that I really found myself in it. The combination of technical English, electrical engineering and linguistics is quite unique, so its graduates are in high demand on the job market. Moreover, it is definitely possible to continue your studies at the BUT after you graduate from this bachelor´s programme. For me, it was a great choice. I now work as a Technical Writer at Thermo Fisher Scientific.”
Mgr. et Bc. Ekaterina Valenta (class of 2018): “I can only recommend studying English in Electrical Engineering and Informatics, especially if you are interested in languages and their application in tech companies and in business. I currently work as a Linguistic Services Manager at RWS Group, a leader in localization solutions. I use the knowledge I have gained in Practical English and Business English not only in everyday communication, but also in intercultural communication and when analyzing the quality of translations. Studying English in Electrical Engineering and Informatics has also enabled me to see things from different perspectives and to understand a foreign language as a system. Since the program also offers lab seminars in electrical engineering, computer science and physics, each student can develop their skills and focus on what they enjoy most.”
Bc. Gabriela Gajdošová (class of 2022): “The English for Electrical Engineering and Informatics programme provided me with everything I needed to improve my English speaking skills and gain a rich professional vocabulary, which I used when writing my bachelor's thesis and subsequently when looking for a job. Immediately after my final exams, I successfully applied for a job as a copywriter in an English electronics company. In two rounds of interviews, I used the aforementioned vocabulary along with my technical knowledge. In the end, however, I turned the job down and took a job in the back office of a Belgian bank. At work, I still use professional English every day in meetings and work emails, just with specialist vocabulary from a slightly different field. So, to sum up, my experience with the study programme was positive. I started my studies with the intention of using my language skills in a foreign company with a technical or other professional focus, and that´s what I have managed to do.”
